How major life changes can lead to divorce

On Behalf of | Mar 2, 2022 | Uncategorized |

There are a lot of different reasons for divorce, from infidelity to financial stress, but one thing you want to consider is the fact that any major change can simply cause someone to re-evaluate their life. They may think differently about where they are or what they want. All of this can lead to a divorce, even if there previously didn’t seem to be that many problems in the relationship.

In fact, this is the reason that those who are over 40 years old often get divorced. Things change and shift and they try to adjust to them, perhaps by ending a marriage that they’re unhappy with or reconsidering where they want to be in 10 years. This certainly doesn’t mean that everyone who experiences a big life change is going to end their marriage, but it’s important to know that it can happen.

What type of life changes can do this?

There’s no easy answer to this, as just about any change can impact someone in this way, and all individuals are unique. But some of the common reasons that people cite include the following:

  • All of the children move out of the house.
  • Health begins to decline or there is a serious diagnosis.
  • Financial situations change or a job is lost.
  • Someone begins to struggle with alcohol abuse or drug use.
  • Life becomes very busy as careers ramp up and couples just don’t spend that much time together.

It’s hard to predict where life will take you and your spouse. If you find yourself considering a divorce or if your spouse has already filed for a divorce, then it’s important to carefully consider all of the legal steps you can take to focus on your own future.
